Rolex Serial Number Location Datejust3/11/2024 ![]() To purchase watches or for repair or service issues, call 720.722.1177. These new serial numbers are 8 (eight) characters, rather than the number of characters being limited to 7 in earlier Rolex watches. In 2010, Rolex mostly abandoned their previously used conventional numbering sequence in favor of a random or scrambled serial number. By 2010 this practice was put into place on all of the Rolex timepieces. The rehaut is a protected area of the watch and is not susceptible to the wear and tear incurred by serial numbers engraved on the external watch case. At this time, Rolex began utilizing only the rehaut location for the placement of the serial number. In 2008, Rolex halted the procedure for engraving the serial number on the watch case between the lugs at the 6 o’clock position. In 2005, Rolex started engraving the serial number of their watches on the rehaut (a French term meaning “flange”) between the dial and the crystal in addition to being engraved at the 6′ o’clock location. The Rolex serial number used to be located at 6 o’clock between the lugs where the bracelet attaches to the case.
